New Year New Blog

Just like many others, I will start the 2010 year with a new blog. Will you enjoy it? Who knows. Life as a yooper is strange. For those of you who don't know what a Yooper is, join the club. Haha. Anyway, yoopers are people from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Michigan has an Upper Peninsula? Who knew?? I sure didn't til I moved here. It is that little peninsula piece of land sticking off the north east part of Wisconsin. We are attached to lower Michigan by a huge bridge, the Mackinac Bridge.

This is a long, scary bridge to drive over, especially mid January, when I moved here from Philadelphia. People who live in lower michian are known as trolls (under the bridge) and we are known as yoopers.

Anyway, what I hope to accomplish here is giving people a little understanding of life as a yooper, especially when you weren;t born here... or anywhere like this. I was born in Southern California and in my 20's I moved to Virginia then Philadelphia. Now I am in Michigan and honestly, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. This is a quirky place, very back woods and rural in most parts. Many people here don't realize it is no longer 1975. This makes it a little difficult when you are a Diva like me. So, as I go undecorate for Christmas, I hope you enjoy learning more of what life is like when you are a Yooper Diva.
